1. All School Bus Service Ending
by March 2010
The Hawaii School Bus Association (HSBA) wants to alert you
that all school bus service will be discontinued by March 1, 2010 or when funds
are depleted. The Board of Education (BOE) has refused to request funding from
the Legislature to continue school bus service for 40,000 students. The education
and safety of our children will suffer and their parents put in unworkable situations.
2. No School Bus for Kids Within
1.5 miles on January 1, 2010
All students in grades 6-12 living within a newly expanded 1 1/2-mile radius of
their school will no longer be entitled to use the school bus. This changes current
1-mile radius. The Board of Education is putting many children’s safety
at risk by forcing them to walk on busy, crowded streets, many without sidewalks.
The traffic in and around the schools will become even worse. Hills are steep,
winding roads have dangerous blind spots, crossing streets is always dangerous
for children now forced to walk to and from school.
Please
download the petition, complete and return it to your child’s
bus driver tomorrow, if you do not want your child forced into these unsafe conditions
and you want school bus service to continue.
We urge you to voice your concerns
to Governor Linda Lingle and these Education Decision makers: |
